Feed and shape our research

As part of our work to build shared intelligence about independent living and excluded young people, we have commissioned some independent research into opportunities for innovaiton in the two fields. The research is being done by Margaret Bolton and Jean Barclay, who we are delighted to be working with. I want the research to make the most of our online connections and to be driven by the communities of interest we are building. Some of those who have already contributed to this website have agreed to be interviewed for the research - many thanks to you. if you have thoughts about the research or any areas on which you would like it to focus, please commment here or simply drop me an email. As the work develops in the coming weeks, we will come back to you with key emerging questions, to give you a second chance to shape this work. So, if you have always wanted to commission research into an issue in this area, now’s your chance…

The phrase ‘Independent Living’ has a specific understanding amongst disabled peoples’ own organisations. IL is about having the autonomy, resources and choices to have control over your own life so that you can make your own decisions, rather than being about ‘care’ or being ‘looked after’.

The governmant appears to be buying in to this notion and has published 2 excellent documents (weblinks below) which explain and explore a wide range of the issues.

Can I also recommend my organisation’s website for further information and explanations. (link below)

Happy to be part of the research / talk through these issues further.

We are engaging people through this website and through as much stakeholder engagement we can fit into our weeks. We will also engage people through our programme of research and through events. We will draw this work together on the website – for example, members are already helping to shape our research. […]
