Dementia costs economy £27,647 per year- could innovation be the answer?

Posted by Anthea Hollist on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Dementia now costs the Uk economy £23bn anually, according to the BBC News.

For the 821, 884 sufferers, there is no known cure, not even ways to slow it down or delay it. The lack of effective treatment should therefore be an argument for devoting more effort to researching solutions; both in the long term, and more immediately to support families and carers who take care of those with dementia, as well as improving the quality of life of those with the life long condition.

Innovation Exchange is working with the East Midlands Joint Improvement partnership to seek out and support some of the most innovative projects around personalising social care across the region. One of the core objectives is to improve the quality of life for carers or people with dementia, in both the long term and short term. If you are an innovator in the East Midlands who is doing some great work around supporting people with dementia, then tell us what you are doing by responding to our call for ideas. Maybe together we can make innovation the answer.
