Intranet solutions - getting knowledge working

Got the earlier post wrong! I'm interested in knowledge sharing. We've been working with SharePoint and it may work in time, but it seems cumbersome and expensive. What solutions are there for collaborative online document sharing, learning and interactivity that we can develop easily, cheaply and securely. Pointers would be great and would help us stimulate and support the sort of innovation we want to foster in the organisation

  • Hi Paul, Sharepoint is cumbersome if you only have basic needs though it does not need to be expensive .. I think you should get a basic free version with Microsoft Server or something (I am not a teccie but check). Regardless, it sounds like something like Google Sites would be more appropriate for your needs: http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html? Douglas
  • It might be worth examining why you wish to share documents rather than information. What I'm thinking is that it's the information sharing that is important and documents are largely a legacy of a printed form of information sharing. A wiki might be appropriate. You can still share documents but moreover you can create a shared, secure online workspace. Regarding collaboration there probably needs to be a driving force over and above the shared information space. Solutions such as Imaginatik's (www.imaginatik.com) indicate possibilities in that respect.
