Where is the need for this project?
Many vulnerable people are unable to access private rented accommodation because they claim benefits or cannot provide a deposit. But with a shortage of council housing, people can wait years to get a council tenancy, preventing them from living independent lives.
Where do you hope this project can go?
Aquila Way works in partnership with private landlords and trained volunteers from local churches to help vulnerable access and retain rented homes of their own. Clients rent the properties through Aquila Way, who also provide the deposit, and are linked with volunteers who provide them with informal support. 58:12 is a medium-term solution and the goal is that clients will be eventually no longer need support and will be able to take on the tenancy themselves. Aquila Way hope that this project can provide a vital bridge into private renting for excluded young people, creating housing solutions that are both better for them and more efficient for society.
